The Comptroller and Auditor General’s financial audit of the Union government’s accounts, tabled on 2 April 2026. It records ₹54,282 crore in utilisation certificates still pending across 33,973 cases and 15 ministries as of 31 March 2025, some of them dating to 1985-86 — money spent by ministries for which the supporting proof of use had not been filed. It also found ₹12,754 crore in receipts and expenditure booked under the wrong heads, and ₹9,222 crore in cess and levy collections not transferred to the reserve funds they were raised for.
