The Finance Ministry’s pre-Budget review of the economy, tabled by Nirmala Sitharaman on 29 January 2026 and prepared by the Department of Economic Affairs under Chief Economic Adviser V. Anantha Nageswaran. It projected real GDP growth of 6.8–7.2% for 2026-27, against an estimated 7.4% for 2025-26, and revised the economy’s medium-term potential growth upward to about 7%. The Survey set its forecast against external projections that were more cautious — the IMF had India at 6.4% — and flagged trade fragmentation, volatile capital flows and currency depreciation as the principal risks.
