The programme to send Indian astronauts to low Earth orbit on an Indian launch vehicle and bring them back. It runs through three uncrewed flights before anyone flies. The first, G1, will carry no crew: it will fly the half-humanoid robot Vyommitra to about 400 km for roughly three days to validate life support, re-entry and recovery. ISRO’s chairman said on 4 September 2026 that 90% of the work on G1 is complete and the launch is set for the first week of December 2026 — later than the March and August–September 2026 dates that had been mentioned earlier in the year. The crewed mission is targeted for 2027.
