- What the beneficiary receives
- A deposit-free LPG connection with the first refill and a stove, plus a subsidy of ₹300 per 14.2-kg cylinder on up to four refills a year — a maximum annual benefit of about ₹1,200 per household. The cap was nine refills until June 2026.
- Eligibility
- Adult women of households identified as poor (SECC/ration categories) that do not already hold an LPG connection in any family member’s name.
- Rules, limitations & exceptions
- One connection per eligible household. The beneficiary’s identity and bank account must be verifiable; the connection is made by the designated oil company distributor. The refill subsidy is paid by direct transfer.

The scheme that gives poor households a deposit-free LPG connection, and then subsidises part of the cost of refills. About 10.56 crore connections have been released. Its refill subsidy was cut sharply in June 2026: beneficiaries had been entitled to a ₹300 subsidy on up to nine cylinders a year, and now receive it on four. The government said the four-cylinder cap matches what an average Ujjwala household actually uses, and that the cut was aimed at diversion of subsidised cylinders; the reduction came as global LPG prices rose about 46% between February and June 2026.
