A subsidised crop-insurance programme under which the farmer pays only a capped share of the premium and the government meets the rest. The farmer’s share has not changed since the scheme began: 2% of the sum insured for kharif food and oilseed crops, 1.5% for rabi, and 5% for annual commercial and horticultural crops. From kharif 2026 the scheme added cover for damage by wild animals and for paddy inundation. Enrolment for kharif closes on 31 July, and crop damage must be reported within 72 hours.
